Cashel Blue:
Website

Cashel Blue is a household name and an Irish food icon. It is widely regarded as one of the finest, most approachable artisan blue cheeses in the world.

Our brief was to create a daring website to celebrate Cashel Blue's 40-year Irish heritage and produce. So, how can a traditional heritage brand embrace modern digital design without losing its soul? Working closely with Sarah, Sergio and Rory we brought their vision to life.

Rooted in their foundational ethos to "dare to be different," we moved away from the sober, muted templates typical of  the specialty food sector. Instead, we built an environment that acts as a living brand space. We organised the site through three pillars: Enjoy, Discover, and Experience which entices visitors to explore the world of Cashel Blue.

We evolved the brand identity to bring it up to date in the digital space. The original brand typeface Clarendon became a connection to the past and also offered lots of character and playfulness. Paired with Gt Walsheim and hand written type allowed multiple ways to communicate. The hand made story was something we wanted to imbue; hand drawn elements, natural light and textures, and going as far as photographing on Film using a Flexaret Camera from the 1950s, brought us that authentic texture and detail. Keeping the product front and centre with rich photography, and complimenting it with stop motion animation, illustrative touches, brings a further human connection.

The site is a deep dive around their story and ethos, with historical timelines, films, recipes and pairings. It is inviting chefs, trade partners, and cheese lovers to learn, explore and to maybe come offline and visit the dairy for a tasting experience.
